John

What can I say about John. If you've been following along, you know we got along very well, from the day I came back to my new hotel room in Cape Town and found a note on the floor that said “Please excuse the Chinese laundry.” He had left his clothes all over the room and his boots hanging out the bathroom window!

That first night in the room, we talked for about an hour before we finally said we've got 54 days to talk!

This is the last picture I took of him, as he is trying to fit a cover over his luggage. He managed to fit all of the stuff from the bag that was lost for two weeks, plus the new stuff he bought in Cape Town to replace it. He was good enough to leave me his warmer sleeping bag for my Kilimanjaro climb.

I was a very lucky guy to have such a great tent mate. We spent 54 days, 24 hours a day together and never had a problem. Anyone who can put up with me for that long, has to be a great guy, or a masochist. The whole trip was fantastic, and his company made it that much better. We laughed a lot, drank a little, yacked a bunch and really got to know each other as we traveled 12000 kilometres across 9 different African countries. We saw lots, met lots of great people (African and people from around the world), saw all the animals we were looking for and did a lot of fun activities.

We agreed when he left, that this is not goodbye, just so long for now.

Thanks John, I couldn't have asked for anyone better.
