Sunday, July 19th.
After breakfast Diane was presented with another food bill
for an additional 300 cedis. Her bill is now about twice as much as mine. We
figured we should be charged for 60 meals, 8 people times 7 dinners plus Eric
and the three co-tutors, but we only counted a total of 40, so I think I was
undercharged, but with all the hassles I was certainly not going to point that
out to them. We packed up and loaded up the truck and van and headed off to the
hotel that the GNAT guys are staying at. There, there were another four trucks
and Thomas Musah was back. Thankfully Ernest and Thomas Baafi are still smiling
and talking to us. It took us another hour to wait for them to finish loading
up their vehicles and then go to the filling station. Finally we were on the
road at 11 in a convoy of six vehicles. I typed up some of the last couple of days as we
drove along. We arrived in Bolgatanga about two hours later at the X Tee Crystal
Hotel where Ernest and Thomas Baafi immediately went to the desk to check the
rates, which are 140 per room. We put Vanda and Pascale on the ground floor and
the rest of us are on the third. The hotel is okay, but hot and the pool is
empty until September! I am sharing a room with Obed again. I went for a short
walk down the dirt road but it was really hot. Diane and I spent an hour
sorting out our receipts and coordinating. The rest of the day was spent
relaxing and having dinner and a beer. Back to the room to catch up on e-mails
and head off to sleep.
