Sirigu
Thursday, July 23rd.
Back at the college by 8:30 and the first thing we
did was the CTF surveys. After that Obed, Vanda and Pascale took turns leading
their workshops and finishing their topics. I did the bum spelling activity
with them and they loved that. The participants all love games and activities
where they can compete or just have fun. There is a little girl here with her
mom who is afraid of all of us white folk. Every time we come near she whines,
cowers and hides behind mom. I talked to Ernest and suggested that our group of
participants should get a copy of the Abu and Musa stories like Diane’s group does.
He agreed and gave me enough to give each participant a copy of each. We had a
quick lunch of the usual stuff and then loaded up in the van and Eric took us
to a remote area along a bumpy dirt road to the Sirigu Women's Organization for
Pottery and Art. This is an art co-op of traditional women from the culture
that used to decorate their houses with murals and stencils. The co-op also
does batik work, pottery and basket weaving. Brenda, Pascale and Diane bought
some things and I went for a walk along the country road watching the local
people. Then we loaded up again and heading back to the hotel. We hung around
in our rooms for a couple of hours before the co-tutors came for dinner. We had
booked a private room and the twelve of us ate there. As usual it took forever
to get everyone served but we had a good night.
