Friday July 4th.
Bus picked us up at 7:45 and we had a hot catered breakfast at CTF. Another long day of sitting, listening to some good info and playing some games. We played one about two different cultures with one half of us as one culture, the Alphas and the other half the Betas and we had to figure out the other culture. Sort of fun, but confusing. But of course that was the point, trying to learn a new culture can be fun and confusing or frustrating. We had two hours to plan a few things but since we don't really know what we are going to be doing we spent most of that time talking about all things teacher. The best was at the end when a former resident of each of our host countries came to talk to us about our country. We had Eric from Ghana, who happens to be Jennifer Jones, the CTF travel agent's, husband. He was very engaging and we asked lots of questions and felt more comfortable about where we are heading.
After dinner we were driven back to the residence and people broke off to do their own things. Some went to visit people they knew in Ottawa, others went for a walk or a drink. I decided to run the canal. I took my Garmin and clocked it. I ran from here to Carlton University, crossed the lock and ran back on the other side around the big bay, to Parliament Hill, just under 14 kilometres. It was hard but satisfying as I haven't run for a long time. Walked around downtown for a bit and then back to the residence for the night. Tomorrow is the last day in Ottawa and then we are off tomorrow night!
