We were picked up by 8:30 and
driven to the head offices of GNAT where we met Ernest and a group of union
leaders. They gave us a history of their organization and a little bit about
what we are going to do. Because we won’t meet our co-tutors until tomorrow it
felt a little bit like we were spinning our wheels and they didn't really know
what to do with us. We stayed until about noon and then Ernest said that the
union would take us out for lunch. Eric drove us to a Chinese restaurant! The
food was pretty good.
Then they drove us back to our
hotel. Cameron suggested we go for a walk to a juice bar he knew from last
year. Leah and Lyle begged off because of mosquito bites on their legs that they
want to tend to, so the rest of us set off. It was nice to get out and do
something a little physical, but it wasn't a very interesting area to walk in.
We are in a hotel and embassy area which is pretty secure and not typical of
Accra. However, we had a great drink made from fresh tropical fruits. We walked
some more and then headed back.
When we returned Angela, Barb, Owen
and I hung out in the pool until dinner to cool off. Lot so laughs about a
loose light fixture and an intake pipe that sucked up Barb's bathing suit.
Just before dinner I showed Angela
and Leah my African animal pictures. Dinner was good but it took a long time to
get everyone served. I had grilled grouper. I showed them the St Vincent photos
from last year while Cameron, our soccer fan, watched Germany trounced Brazil
7-1 in the world cup semifinal. Another good day.
