Thursday December 2nd.
This morning after breakfast I walked along Ipanema Beach to Copacabana to the historical Fort Copacabana that Danny told me to visit. It was built in the early 1900's, why I not sure, because there was no English information there. However, the fort is a huge rock and concrete bunker, round on top and riddled with tunnels underneath. On top there are two huge turret guns, each with two barrels. The fort hasn't been maintained very well, but I think they are beginning to do something to it, perhaps to get it ready for the World Cup and Olympics, both of which Brazil is hosting in the next couple of years.

After that I came back to the hostel, changed and headed to the beach for a swim. Water is a great temperature and the waves are lots of fun. They are big enough to knock you off your feet and roll you around in the surf. I came up once with a lump in my pocket that at first I thought was my wallet, but turned out to be sand! The yellow Skol kiosk is the one I've been going to to watch footvolley at night.
Then back for a quick lunch and wait to be picked up for the afternoon tour. I've decided to give that it's own page, so I can post extra photos. So... to be continued...
