Cape Point

Saturday December 11th. Today I was picked up by Gwyneth and her fiancee Geno at 8am, and chauffeured around the Cape of Good Hope. We drove from Cape Town over land to the east side of the pennisula and the town of Muizenburg. The weather was sunny today but very windy and the seas were really rough. Then we followed the east coast of the pennisula through Fish Hoek to Simonstown. Here there is a protected penguin colony. We walked around and saw lots of them in their nesting environment.
From there we drove south to the Cape Of Good Hope Nature Reserve. The area is very barren, windswept and supports only shrubs. We saw four gemsbok, a type of antelope. We continued to the southern point and then hiked up the hill to the lighthouse. Really windy!!
Then we continued around the point and up the west side. Along the road we came across a troop of baboons playing and eating Protea flowers. As we continued the road followed right along the coast and reminded me of Big Sur in California. Beautiful vistas and beaches.
We stopped for a fresh fish and chips lunch at Hout Bay and then continued past Llandudno Beach, Camp's Bay and Clifton Beach. We stopped at a couple of the beaches but didn't stay because the wind was whipping the sand around.
Gwyneth and Geno dropped me off at my hostel at 5:00, after a terrific day of sightseeing. I went to my room and promptly had a two hour nap! It finally caught up to me.
