Day 33 Snorkeling Trip

Saturday January 15th. Today we had a provided breakfast at the restaurant and then we all walked down the beach to get our snorkeling gear. After we were all kitted up we boarded our large dhow and set out for the reef. It was a two hour boat ride. The weather was hot and perfect, the water was turquoise and crystal clear.

We spent an hour and a half snorkeling on a reef that looked pretty healthy. There were lots of kinds of fish, surprising how many seem to the be the same species as in the Caribbean. I saw an anemone with a clown fish in it. Saw a school of pipefish as well. There was lots of different corals, including brain and some fan coral.

Then we all boarded the boat again and sailed back to the mainland and a beach where we had dropped off a couple of guides and our food on the way out. They served us bbq'd tuna, rice and a salad.

Then we sailed back to our resort. It was really hot on the boat and everyone got lots of sun. When I got back I went swimming to cool off. I stayed in the water with Ed and had a good talk.

Vernon had arranged for us to join some other people on another beach for a full moon party, even though it was only a half moon, but John, Ed, Richard and I decided to stay on our beach and have dinner and an early night. The young folks all headed off for dinner at eight, party at ten and home by three. We enjoyed our fish dinner at an outdoor restaurant on the beach. After that we headed to bed about ten. I seem to have gotten a cold or a reaction to air conditioning and swimming in salt water. Either way, I'm stuffed up and a bit run down.
