Day 16 Game Walk and Mokoros

Up at 4:00 for a quick bite and then heading off for a game walk. We took a short mokoro ride to another island and then were divided up into four groups for the walk. Our group saw several zebra, tseebees, a giraffe, a wildebeest, a skeleton of a water buffalo and lots of birds and bugs. We hiked for about four hours.

Back to camp to spend the afternoon hanging out again. Weather was a bit cooler, but we still swam and had a good time. John and I went with Galaxy and tried our hands at poling the mokoro. You have to stand up and push off the bottom or the side of the canal to steer it. Looks easy but it's tricky.

In the late afternoon the guides took us for a long mokoro ride through another area of the delta. The area is beautiful, quiet, no signs of people anywhere. And the ride is very relaxing.

Back to camp again for dinner and then an evening of music. The guides sang a series of native songs for us. Again it sounded like the Lion King. After they were finished we were encouraged to sing. John tried to organize us to do Row row your boat, someone else tried to get us to sing Brother Jacques Song, or national anthems or the Lion Sleep Tonight... all fun but not very polished. Then bed.

  1. I would like to see you stand and pole the tippy green canoe at Woodway!
Especially since it doesn't have a seat anymore.....
