Day 30 Dar Es Salaam

Wednesday January 12th. Up at 4:00, off by 5:00. Another really long day. Another day of taking pictures from the truck. We drove through a beautiful valley that is part of the rift valley. After descending for a long way we had to stop to let our brakes cool off. We stopped to see another bunch of baobab trees, but they weren't as big as the ones we saw before.

We drove through Mikumi National Park. We saw impala, cape buffalo, elephant and waterhogs, but they were all fairly far away.

For lunch we stopped in Kizulanza were there was a restaurant with a buffet. The food was okay. I talked to a couple from Colorado who were riding a motorcycle through Africa. They have been doing similar trips for years. They have a website that I will check out if and when I get internet. (ultimate journey.com) to here.

I saw a goat strung up in a tree and being skinned by a young man. Shortly after that we arrived in the outskirts of Dar Es Salaam and ran into our first big African traffic jam. We finally arrived at the harbour by 4:30 and took a short ferry ride across the bay to the beach area and our campsite at Makadi Beach.

Set up camp and then John and I went swimming in the Indian Ocean. The water was very warm and very salty. Then we jumped into the pool, which was also salt, with a bunch of others. Ben, Vernon and I tried to drown John but he's strong as an ox!

Then we had dinner in the camp restaurant. Aftewards some of us played pool and had a couple of beer.
