Tuesday November 9.
Took a taxi to the airport with an Australian couple, Eric and Anushka, who were at my hostel (they had missed their flight yesterday, because they didn´t know they had to go through customs, but their baggage went). The flight was great and it was obvious there were very few backpackers on this trip, it´s too expensive.
Went we arrived, we were met by local people renting rooms in their homes. I talked to a couple before bargaining with a man named Martin and going with him. He took me to his car and already inside were Eric and Anushka! He´s French and she´s Sri Lankan, but they live in Australia.
The island is called Isla de Pascua, the town is Hanga Roa, the native people are Rapa Nui and the heads are called moai.
His home was quite nice and centrally located in the small town of of Hango Roa. Then Martin, drove us to a dive centre, because Eric wanted to scuba. He went but Anushka decided not to. So we walked around the small harbour and the coast of the town looking at the moai ruins for a couple of hours. Really interesting to finally see Easter Island heads in person. I´ve always wanted to come here and the heads and the island don´t disappoint. Really kind of surreal. Then we explored the town, and got lost as we went back to the room to meet Eric.
The three of us went to a bar on the coast, watched the sunset and had a beer, and then went to another restaurant for a fish dinner. I had albacore - tuna. Good day.
