Wednesday,
June 1st. Happy 82nd birthday to Jack.
We had a relaxing morning enjoying breakfast and doing Wordle. We packed up and left by 11 and headed east to Quebec City. The drive and traffic were easy. It was just over three hours. We stopped once for gas. When we got to Quebec I drove us to The Plains of Abraham Park where we sat in the warm sun and cool breeze and ate our picnic lunch that Rebecca had provided for us. Then I tried to orientate myself to place I had been previously. After a bit of searching I found where I had stayed for the underwater hockey tournament and the pyramid shaped food court building where I had first had a poke bowl. We decided we’d have that for dinner. Then we drove to the Concord Hotel, which I had surreptitiously booked this morning while Shayna was showering. It was right beside where we had our picnic. I left Shayna to get organized because I had to park the car in an underground in the next block. Then we went for a long walk down the Grand Allee to the old city and Chateau Frontenac. We wondered around the square and then descended the steps to the artsy old town. It was late afternoon and it was very quiet there. We browsed through a few shops that were open and listened to some musicians and just soaked up the atmosphere. Then we climbed back up to the Frontenac and wandered back to our hotel area. We took the car and went to have dinner. The poke bowls were good, but the one we have in Toronto is actually much better. We ate in the pyramid and then drove back and re-parked the park. There were several restaurants and bars near our hotel and I wanted to have a beer outside but it was cool and not very busy, so after some hemming and hawing we went to the Concord looking for an indoor bar. We found one on the 27 floor. It was a circular rotating restaurant/bar overlooking all of Quebec City. We enjoyed a drink while watching the sky darken and the lights come on. Nice to relax and end our first day. Then we went back to our room and settled in for the night.
Joe, these were some of the places we had visited. It brought back wonderful memories.
