Exploring and Sampling PEI

Guess which one is my boat....

Anne of Green Gables house.

The north shore of PEI.
A colony of cormorants.

The Blue Mussel Cafe.
Shayna with tuna tartar and my seafood chowder.

Sunday, June 5th.

Shayna and I were awoken early as we could hear people in the next room and the hallway. We got up, checked out and began our drive to Cavendish on the northwest shore. We stopped at a Tim’s for coffee and breakfast, a Sobey’s for lunch stuff and a Shoppers. Then we went looking for Green Gables. It took a bit, but we found it eventually. I wasn’t sure if I really wanted to check out this ‘tourist’ site, but it was well worth it and a loving testament to a great writer and a wonderful character. We explored the museum, the old home (that actually belonged to Lucy Maud Montgomery’s relatives) and the barn. Then we drove on the coastal road from Cavendish to North Rustico. There were several beautiful view points of the shore and the Gulf of St Lawrence where you could see colonies of sea birds and rock formations created by the erosive effects of waves and tides. It was supposed to rain all day, but we lucked out. Then we drove to our B’n’B that I booked yesterday. We met the hostess Nicole, who showed us around this beautiful 15-bedroom building. She lives in the older part of the house with her husband James and their 5 children, and they rent the other 8 rooms out. We settled in and typed some emails before taking James up on his recommendation to go to the Blue Mussel CafĂ© for dinner. It was a great spot, and we had an amazing meal. Shayna had tuna tartar and scallops, and I had seafood chowder and halibut. Really excellent. Our hosts Nicole and James were there too. While we were there the rains came down and we drove back in it. We updated our journals, the blog, Wordled and turned in.
