We had a great hot breakfast prepared for us by our hostess Nicolle. She had ten people to feed and they had chosen a variety of breakfasts, from waffles, eggs Benedict, French toast, bacon and eggs. She prepared all of this after feeding and packing off her five kids for the school buses. We had a nice talk with the other guests. We left about 10 and drove to the hamlet of New London, which was the birthplace of Lucy Maud Montgomery. Then we drove to Summerside to see their harbour before beginning the drive to Cape Breton. We paid the $50.25 toll as recrossed the Confederation Bridge. It took us 12 minutes to drive its 12.9km length. That brought us back to New Brunswick. From there we drove east for an hour until we got to Nova Scotia, where we stopped at the Welcome Centre and I bought a fleece lined raincoat and Shayna bought three warm jerseys. We decided to drive the Cabot Trail before going to Halifax. The drive was easy, just long. We finally arrived in Baddeck at 5:30 at the start of the Cabot Trail, where I had prebooked a hotel for the night. We stayed at the Ceilidh (pronounced ‘Kalee’) Country Lodge. We checked in, got organized, drove around town to explore and then we went to the Baddeck Lobster Dinner feast. I had mussels and Shayna had a cup of chowder and we both had lobster. We are enjoying the seafood here. Then we went back to the hotel to get organized for the trail tomorrow.
so glad you are having such a good time
ReplyDeleteAlthough you took a good picture of the PEI soil, Joe, my recollection of a visit there a number of years ago is that a photograph often does not do justice to the richness of the red soil, green grass, and blue sea contrasts. I was blown away by the juxtaposition of colours when I first saw PEI. As you and Shayna would know, the Island is such a neat, little province to have as part of Canada.
