Saturday, June 16th.
We were up really early for breakfast before beginning
our travel day. We left the hotel and walked a short distance to the ferry
terminal. We were going from Sarawak to Sabah so we had to have our passports
checked. Then we boarded the long skinny ferry that took us from Limbang,
Sarawak to the Federal Territory of Labuan. It took over two hours and they
showed a movie on it, but I dozed off and on. At Labuan there was a small duty-free
area where people could buy booze, beer, candy, chocolate and cigarettes. Then
we took a speed boat with twin two hundred horse power motors from, the Federal
Territory of Labuan to Menumbok, Sabah. There we were taken by two vans for a
forty-minute drive from Menumbok to Kuala Penyu where we boarded another speed
boat to go from from Kuala Penyu to Pulau Tiga, otherwise known as Survivor
Island. This is where they shot one of those episodes.
The resort was built here after that, about twenty
years ago. It is owned by a Chinese man and is looking tired and old, although
it does have a certain charm. There is a mud volcano here about a kilometre
inland and some of our group went there for the therapeutic mud. I decided to
hang out on the beach, enjoy the warm water, and finish my Shortest History of
Europe book.
We met up for a buffet dinner and had a couple of
beer. I spent part of the evening showing Anthony and Viv some of my little
videos. Everyone went to bed about 9:30. I have my own room again for the two
nights here.
