Leaving Sri Lanka

Three great guys.
Friday, February 16th.

John and I got up at 7:00, e-mailed a bit and then went down for breakfast where we met a few of the others. We all said another goodbye and then Tamsin, Adrian and John and I boarded the van for the drive to the airport with the three guides. Shane and Katie joined us as they were being dropped off at the bus station as they were taking a local bus to a beach location north of Mirrisa for a week.

The drive to the airport was great, we had the van to ourselves so there was lots of space and we were on the only freeway on the island. It could have been the highway to the cottage and there was no traffic. It occurred to me that this road was very elitist, as most of the people in Sri Lanka cannot or do not use it. There are no tuk tuks or local buses on this road. But I guess you could argue it is an investment in the future of the country.

When we got to Colombo, Sam left us as he lives there. We all said our goodbyes and then the drivers drove us to the airport which is north of the city. Again, we said goodbyes to Shantha and Lasantha, two genuine and wonderful men.
Continued on the Maldives post.
