One half of the students I will be working with this year. This is 4G
Monday, February 1st.
Today
was the start up with kids. I rode to school and met my first group
of 22 grade 4's. They are a pretty homogeneous class, all Caucasian,
either from Australia or France. They seem like a really nice group
of kids. They were quite interested in me as you would imagine.
Tomorrow I meet the other 22 who spent the first day with Claire, my teacher partner, we both have grade 4 in what they call the
biome. Then we will alternate one week with each group. The good news
is that way I get to plan for one week and deliver it twice, the bad
news is I have 44 reports to do!
Yard
duty is different here. There is a half hour morning recess and an
hour lunch, the first 15 of which is eating in the room with the
classroom teacher supervising. There is no afternoon recess. The kids
eat their snack or lunch in the classroom before going outside. No
one is allowed to eat outside. Yard duty times are fifteen minutes
but you could have the first 15 of lunch or the middle 15 or the last
15.
I
just got my timetable today, the first day of school. We have three
specialists, one for music, art and gym. It is nice to have prep for
something different for a change. I haven't really figured out how
prep time works yet, as I think some of it is expected to be team
planning time.
Today
was the nicest day weather wise that I have had in Melbourne, and it
figures I was back at work, sunny, warm and blue skies. I rode home,
dropped off the bike and walked to the beach to hang out for a bit
before grocery shopping for more salad stuff and heading home.
Wow, looks like a class from Alliston, as you put it very homogeneous AND you were allowed to take a picture!!!!
