An Architectural Tour of Lusail

The Lusail Stadium, one of 8 they built for the 2022 Fifa World Cup.

Lusail Plaza Tower

Al Marina Twin Towers
Lusail Katara Hotel

Velero Hotel

This just scratches the surface of the towers in Doha and I can't find the name of most of them.

Friday, February 6th.

I relaxed by the pool for a bit while they cleaned my room. Mid afternoon I decided to go hunting for a few buildings I had seen on the road trips. I took the Metro to the north end of the line to the suburb Lusail and then a tram into the community. There is a marina there, with next to no boats and a number of architecturally imaginative and fantasy-like hotels. I wandered around the mostly empty streets taking a few photos for a couple of hours and then took the mostly empty tram back to the Metro and then to my hotel. I think the area I visited was built up to accommodate the Fifa 2022 World Cup and is now largely vacant. I had dinner at the Foul and Falafal restaurant again, this time having Syrian foul (type of bean) with tahini and yogurt with some fresh baked puffy breads. Then I relaxed for the rest of the evening.

  1. Love the egg shaped Velero Hotel and the Lusail Katara Hotel - super interesting architecture - very different from Toronto's boring glass towers.

  2. You need to have an incredible sense of art and engineering to construct these unbelievable architectural beauties!
