Trip To Young Island and Visit to Ministry of Education

Friday, July 12th. TRIP TO YOUNG ISLAND AND VISIT TO MINISTRY OF EDUCATION

We had asked Jane about going to a beach, so were picked up by Wayne and taken to the coast where we had to take a short boat ride to get to Young Island. This is a small private island with an exclusive resort on it. The resort looked nice and the beach was okay. I was in the water very quickly. The temperature was great and it felt great to get wet. I had brought my goggles along so I swam around looking at the fish, coral, and anything else I could see. I found a couple of sand dollars and saw two small skates and a couple of eel like things. Irnice waded a bit but George didn't come in at all. We stayed for a couple of hours. By 11 it was really hot and the sun was intense.

Wayne picked us up again and took us home for a quick lunch before our scheduled meeting with the Minister of Education. It was billed as a courtesy call to the ministry. I dressed nice in black pants and white shirt. When we got there we had to wait for a while until we were told that she was not in the building. So, either there was a genuine miscommunication or else we were snubbed because of the trouble the other day. So, I went to a washroom there and changed into shorts and technical shirt. Then the three of us spent the afternoon wandering around Kingstown. We walked the same streets that we were on for carnival but now we could see the local shops and all the market stalls that are set up everywhere.

After that we walked to another grocery store where we bought more provisions including eggs, hot dog buns and ground beef that we couldn't get the other day. Then Wayne picked us up again and took us home. When we got here Irnice and I made a batch of spaghetti with the beef, onions, mushrooms, and red pepper. Then we had pineapple for dessert.

After that we just hung out on the deck typing, reading and talking. Irnice went to bed before eight and George by nine. I went shortly after.
