Friday, September 20th. Part Deux
We got organized in our new room and then went for a walk to the city centre, which is a pedestrian only zone. The city centre was rebuilt in 1511 after an earthquake and is reminiscent of Prague or Vienna only smaller and easily visited on foot. There are abundant restaurants and shops along the river. We wandered around exploring, enjoying and taking photos. We found an outdoor eating area of small booths of food and drink vendors and just watched and soaked up the vibe. We found out later it was called the Open Kitchen and consisted of booths manned by local eateries and is only set up on Fridays. Then we walked back to the hotel to relax and recharge a few things before our meeting.
At 5 we headed down to the lobby to meet Amanda Baker, our guide leader and our group of 16 other passengers. As expected we are mostly Canadians with six Americans. Amanda gave us a quick briefing and then we walked back to the old town to a restaurant where we had a choice of three different meals. The food was okay, with the appetizer soup served in a muffin shaped piece of bread as the highlight. We sat and talked to Reg and Brenda from Waterloo. After dinner most of the group headed back to the hotel with Amanda. The four of us walked around the old town as the sun was setting and just enjoyed the atmosphere of this beautiful city. We headed back to the hotel so that Shayna could connect with her friends Harvey and Carol who are just finishing a tour and are ending in Ljubljana. We arranged to connect tomorrow. We had a nightcap in the hotel bar with Reg, Brenda and three other women from the group.
What was the local tipple in Ljubiljana Joe? I bet it was strong
