March Break 2000
My mother has gone to Bermuda every year for years where she rents a cottage in the Surfside Beach Resort complex. My brother and sister usually join her. This year Danny and I decided to join her. Danny was 14. We flew down over the March Break while we were both off school. Unfortunately, just before we left, in a gaff of epic proportions, I managed to hit myself in the eye with a piece of paper while walking down the hall of school in a jaunty, about-to-be-on-holiday mood. As a result I scratched my cornea causing a lot of discomfort. I had to wear a pirate patch with salve. It flared up more in Bermuda and I had to visit a doctor there too.
We spent the week exploring the capital city of Hamilton, swimming and snorkeling, walking the abandoned rail trail, climbing the Gibb Lighthouse and admiring the commanding view of the island, and towards the end of the week, when my eye was better, renting a scooter and playing minigolf. We ate in the Swizzle Inn, where they have a sign that says "Swizzle in, Swagger out". We had a great break hanging out with family and enjoying what Bermuda has to offer.
